Subject: Pipes Intro is FLOWERS OF THE FOREST
I was 22 yrs old and going to school at UO in Eugene. My friend at school, from San Rafael, had family working for seva and we were thus able to attend the show. I went down there for a couple days before heading back to Boston for winter break. Steve Earle, Jackson Browne , Buffy Saint Marie , Hamza El Din and Wavy were on the bill as well !
I had seen the GD at Boston Garden in Sept of 94 (as a 13 yr old about to be heartbroken by the loss of Garcia). Went to Furthur Fest etc but was left feeling unfulfilled. This night changed that feeling, and listening back Actually for the first time since that night. I am very grateful for the tapers , and I think one of the great functions of the taper is to allow us to space out at a show if we please and then be able to hear it again. This is kind of how I wish they had kept playing, with Bobby doing heavy leads.
The energy in the room is amazing actually, and one thing I will say is that as you get older more and more you realize the things you either experienced and didn't appreciate as much as you should have, or the things you took for granted until they are no longer. Never miss the water till the well is dry. This is one of those nights that I wish I could go back to like once a year.
I just saw Furthur in Eugene, Robert Hunter in Boston, and Phil at the Capitol in NY. From my side of the fence, I'd kill to see the Dead tour with Hunter and Bobby doing vocals, and Mick Taylor or Ryan Adams on guitar. Or some mixture of them guys. But like is said, my favorite show is my next show ...thanks for the great soundtrack to life. Glad to share with you all
